Cotton Mapped area reaches 360,000ha

Posted on 18/11/2017 8:17:40 AM

Area mapped as of this morning is just over 360,000ha. Thank you to all who have continued to spend a little time to map their cotton fields for this season. As the weather warms up, we are seeing summer storms becoming quite widespread throughout the cotton growing areas. It wont be long before summer fallow sprays will commence, highlighting the importance of mapping where cotton is growing this season. There are still more areas to be mapped in several regions where cotton has been planted this season, so please ensure your farm/s are put on Cotton Map. Thank you!

337,000ha mapped to date!

Posted on 11/11/2017 8:05:08 AM

The fields keep coming in! Each day there are more fields popping up that people have taken the time to put on Cotton Map, hence we're just over 337,000ha. Well done to all for your efforts. Please ensure that you flag - as a mistake - fields that do show up from last year that are not in cotton this year so they can be deleted. Planting is winding up in most areas, but there may possibly be some further opportunities for dryland crops to be planted. Best wishes for the season!

Cotton Map now just over 202,00ha mapped

Posted on 26/10/2017 8:00:19 AM

Yet again thank you to so many agronomists, farm owners, managers etc for taking the time - and care - to correctly map your fields planted this season. Well done, as of this morning we've just moved past 202,000ha's mapped this season. There have only be a couple of instances of fields popping up that were planted to cotton in 16/17, but are not for season 17/18. If you do see this, please flag them as a mistake so they can be deleted, hence maintaining the integrity of the site for all users. Keep them coming and best wishes for a great start to the season.

Cotton Map update 17/18

Posted on 13/10/2017 8:40:43 AM

Good morning. We have just over 102,000ha now uploaded to CottonMap, so thank you to all who have taken the time to map their planted (or planned to be planted) fields. There has been widespread rain over past last week across most cotton growing regions, this should be good for those remaining winter crops, and possibly increase cotton planting in some areas. Please keep mapping your fields, and also if you are seeing fields appearing on CottonMap from last season that are incorrect for this season - ensure you flag them as a mistake! That way they can be deleted, hence maintaining the accuracy of CottonMap for all users. Thank you

Hello everyone. Just a thank you to all agronomic advisors, farm managers & owners who continue to add their fields to CottonMap. As of this afternoon, we have just short of 52,000ha up on the site. So still plenty to go, so keep them coming! Just a heads up, you will see the profile of Bee Connected raised in the coming weeks. Cotton Australia will be urging growers/agronomists to visit the site (www.beeconnected.com.au) and log their farm, that way we can have more influence on the apiarists to upload the location of their hives. Working together will benefit growers, bee keepers, & applicators alike. Best wishes for a great season.

Spray Drift Incidents

Posted on 6/02/2015 8:45:03 AM

The amount of cotton affected by spray drift has increased in recent weeks following sporadic rainfall and weed control being required in cropped and fallowed fields. Help protect your cotton by ensuring your fields are mapped on Cotton Map. Spray drift can be a problem for all pesticides but which can be 100% managed by good stewardship: 1. Always apply herbicides with a ‘Coarse’ or greater spray quality 2. Minimise boom height 3. Ensure that the wind is blowing away from susceptible areas 4. Never spray during a low-level temperature inversion (be particularly vigilant if night spraying) Upskill yourself - Make the right decision(s) - Look after your neighbour(s) - look after your industry.

CottonMap online for 2013

The CottonMap website has proved an extremely valuable tool in addressing phenoxy herbicide drift. Launched in 2009, this website is a key awareness tool to alert neighbours and spray contractors to the proximity of cotton fields in the area. Cotton growers simply map their fields of cotton for the coming season. This has allowed users of phenoxy herbicides to be more aware of sensitive areas and to plan phenoxy herbicide sprays accordingly. The CottonMap site has been updated and is now online and available for mapping 2013-14 season cotton fields.
